A bus driver in Walton County has been fired after being charged with DUI after allegedly driving a bus with 31 children on board while under the influence, according to Walton County Schools.

Carole Etheridge, 49, was charged with 16 counts of child endangerment, and police believe that alcohol was likely the substance behind the DUI.

According to Walton County Schools, Etheridge was suspected of DUI and the Walton County Sheriff's Office intercepted her at Loganville Middle School.

Etheridge was pulled off the bus, and a substitute drive finished the route. County officials say her background check showed no history of DUI arrests.

She was fired after the incident, according to officials.
