Georgia Police helicopter crashes into river, no signs of survivors
CHILTON COUNTY, Ala. - Authorities are on the scene of a Georgia police helicopter has crashed into a river Friday afternoon near Clanton, Alabama, according to the FAA.
The Chilton County Sheriff's office said the crash happened near Cargile Creek on Lake Mitchell. Preliminary information from investigators indicated the helicopter hit a power line and then crashed into the river, according to a report form AL.com.
FAA officials have not determined how many passengers were on the helicopter.
"The FAA should be on scene shortly and the scene will be turned over to them," said Deputy Trae Caton, a sheriff's office spokesman via AL.com. "We have multiple agencies on scene. A massive team effort is taking place to ensure this incident is handled properly."
The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA continue to investigate.
