GBI: Suspect Shot by Acworth Police

ACWORTH, Ga. - A 24-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot by an Acworth Police Officer during a traffic stop Saturday. According to the GBI, Tanner Titmas was shot after he pointed a gun at officers.

Acworth Police Captain Mark Cheatham told FOX 5, the officers stopped the man's vehicle overnight near the entrance ramp to I-75 at Cowan Road for suspicion of DUI. 

When officers tried to arrest Titmas, the GBI said he rolled up his window and refused to get out of his car.

Officers knocked out his window, and moments later they said the suspect pulled out a gun and pointed it at an officer, who then shot him in the chest.

Titmas was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in critical condition.

None of the officers were injured.

Titmas is facing charges connected to the traffic violations and according to the GBI, additional charges are forthcoming for Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
