GBI investigating police shooting in Clayton County

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been asked to investigate a shooting involving a police officer in Clayton County. 

Police said around 5:45 a.m. Thursday, there was a report of a suspicious person at the Motel 6 on Southside Commercial Parkway in Jonesboro. 

As a responding officer approached the suspect, he took off running. Not long after, investigators said the suspect reached into the front of this waistband, and that's when the officer opened fire, striking the suspect at least once.

The suspect continued running but was arrested soon after. 

According to the Clayton County Police Department, the suspect involved in the shooting sustained a non-life threatening injury. 

The officer wasn't hurt.
