GBI investigating death of inmate at Gwinnett County Jail

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is looking into the death of an inmate who was found unresponsive in his cell at the Gwinnett County Jail.

What we know:

Detention officers discovered the body of Phillip Munroe last Monday after he reportedly experienced a medical emergency. Emergency medical services were called to the scene and attempted to perform CPR, but Munroe was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

Munroe had been in custody since July on charges of aggravated assault, robbery, and battery.

What we don't know:

A cause of death has not been released at this time.
