GBI investigate police shooting at Riverdale Home Depot
RIVERDALE, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - Agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation took over the investigation into an officer-involved shooting at a Home Depot in Riverdale.
The shooting happened at the Home Depot on Lamar Hutcheson Parkway.
"The officers were wearing body cameras, so we will be looking at that footage and any other video footage that we can obtain from the scene," said GBI spokeswoman Natalie Ammons.
According to Ammons, officers responded to a shoplifting call at the Home Depot Tuesday afternoon. She said after Riverdale officers made contact with the suspected shoplifter, they gave him commands to stop.
"A physical altercation happened between the subject and one of the officers and at some point, the subject broke away from one of the officers and got into his truck. During that encounter, a second officer discharged his weapon and struck the driver," Ammons told reporters Tuesday afternoon.
The Riverdale Police called in the GBI to investigate--which is the standard operating procedure for officer-involved shootings in the state of Georgia.
Investigators questioned a woman who was in the passenger seat of the bullet-riddled pickup truck, but there's no word on whether she was arrested. GBI agents said the gunshot victim is in critical condition at Atlanta Medical Center.
