MCDONOUGH, Ga. (AP) - A metro Atlanta man has been found guilty of aggravated assault for intentionally spilling industrial strength drain cleaner on his ex-girlfriend.

A Henry County jury on Friday also found Andrew Fordham of Sandy Springs guilty of aggravated battery against Christy Sims of McDonough.

Officials have said Sims was permanently disfigured after Fordham spilled industrial drain cleaner on her face, arms and chest in April 2013. Fordham has said it was an accident.

Sims said Fordham had asked her to bring a towel to the bathroom and when she approached the doorway he lunged toward her with the drain cleaner. She said the chemicals instantly burned her skin and eyes, and Fordham didn't help rinse her off after she rushed to the sink.

Fordham's sentencing is scheduled for July 23.
