Funeral plans announced for Roswell officer killed in line of duty

Funeral plans have been announced for Roswell Officer Jeremy Labonte.

The backstory:

Officer Labonte, 24, was killed while responding to a call at the King Market shopping center on Market Boulevard. His fellow officers chased down the suspect and promptly arrested him.

Labonte began working for the Roswell Police Department on Nov. 1, 2021, as part of the night shift patrol.

He leaves behind a beloved wife.

The Roswell Police Department and the Friends of Roswell Police established a fund through PayPal to collect donations for the Labonte family. Officials say this is the only authorized donation platform for the family.

What they're saying:

Residents and officials in Roswell are mourning the loss of Officer Labonte, who dedicated his life to serving and protecting the community.

"We have such great respect for our Roswell Police; they've always been there for us," resident Kathy Savage said. "It's a great community; everybody comes together. This is not a time that we wanted to be here."

Mayor Kurt Wilson praised Officer Labonte's dedication and service.

"His sacrifice will never be forgotten, and in the coming days, we will come together to pay our respects and celebrate his legacy," Wilson said. "Officer Labonte dedicated his life to serving and protecting the people of Roswell, and now we come together to honor him. This was a really outstanding young man, and we're going to miss him dearly."

When: 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. Feb. 11

Where: Roswell United Methodist Church; 814 Mimosa Boulevard, Roswell

When: 3 p.m. Feb. 12

Where: Roswell United Methodist Church; 814 Mimosa Boulevard, Roswell

For those who cannot make the funeral, the service will also be streamed online.

Processional Route

Labonte's processional will travel from Lebanon Baptist Church, located at 11250 Crabapple Road, at 1:45 p.m., to Roswell United Methodist Church.

The public is invited to line Crabapple Road, Canton Street, Atlanta Street and Mimosa Boulevard to observe the processional and pay their respects.

Public parking will be available at Roswell First Baptist Church and Roswell Presbyterian Church.

Officer Jeremy Labonte's burial service

Officer Labonte's loved ones will hold a private burial service on Feb. 13.
