Funeral for Adairsville Police Chief to be held Monday

Family and friends will gather Monday to remember and honor the Adairsville Police Chief.

The Adairsville Police Department announced the passing of Police Chief Rick Townsend last week.

According to the Adairsville Police Department, Chief Townsend, 63, died around 1:25 a.m. on Thursday after a battle with cancer. 

Captain Louis Dean of the Adairsville Police Department said in a statement: 

The family will receive friends at Lake Arrowhead Church Monday from 10:15 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. and the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. with Reverend Lee Powell officiating, according to Adairsville Police. Interment will follow at Lafayette City Cemetery.

The Adairsville Police Department said Chief Townsend was involved in law enforcement for 42 years. He worked with the FBI, Auburn Police, Georgia Department of Corrections and Marietta Police before joining the Adairsville Police Department.

Chief Townsend is survived by his wife, two children, and his mother.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the In Touch Ministries in his name.
