Friends recall Gwinnett County man who was gunned down in home
GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - A cowardly act is how a friend of a Gwinnett County man described his murder early Friday morning. That friend, Gary Moss, could not hold back his emotions as he criticized the unknown assailant for shooting through the deceased man's front door. Moss described the act as a lack of courage.
Officers arrived at the residence in the 1900 block of Patterson Circle around 5 a.m. Friday after receiving a 911 call from a neighbor after hearing gunshots. Gwinnett County Police said when officers arrived, they saw the bullet holes in the front door. That door was locked. A battering ram was used to gain entry. Once inside, police discovered the body of 44-year-old Eddie Waters at the bottom of the stairs with apparent gunshot wounds.
A neighbor recalled hearing eight shots and a vehicle speeding away right after.
Moss described the deceased as a "good man" who had a family and brought ice cream and sodas for the children in the working class neighborhood.
The friend speculated whoever shot the man dead was "jealous" because the deceased had "his own" – a job and a loving family.
Police said Waters lives alone.
As of Friday evening, investigators did not have a suspect or motive for the crime.
Police ask anyone with information on the case to contact Gwinnett County Police Detectives at 770-513-5300. Tipsters can also contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477) or visit stopcrimeATL.com.
