Friends, Family Mourn Victim of Douglas County Apartment Murder

A man found dead inside a Douglas County apartment is believed to be a murder victim.

As friends started assembling memorial of flowers and balloons in honor of their murdered friend at the Birch Landing apartments, Douglas County deputies spent the day trying to determine who shot the 29-year-old man found dead inside his unlocked apartment overnight.

"Hopefully they have a conscience and turn themselves and turn themselves in," said neighbor Benny Lucas.

Deputies were called to the apartments on Maxham Road late Wednesday night following reports of shots fired. They spoke to several neighbors and family members. Those interviews continued Thursday with heartbroken friends who showed up wanting to know what happened and why. Still, the motive remains unclear and the suspect remains on the run.

“I hope someone will please come forward for his daughter's sake.  She deserves to know what happened. He was a good father and he loved that girl a lot," said a friend named Kayla who did not want to share her last name.

Deputies have not released the victim's name.
