Friends, family gather to remember slain Duluth woman

Family and friends of an Atlanta model and actress shot and killed last year gathered Sunday night to celebrate her life.

Jokisha “Kisha” Brown was murdered on July 1, 2016 while she was sitting in her car at a shopping center off Cheshire Bridge Road. She was found shot at multiple times near a beauty salon she used frequently.

Brown’s best friend, Tavia Marshall, said she was meeting her friend at the salon that day and watched the murder happen from her car.

Brown was killed one day before her 36th birthday.

"She was so beautiful--pictures cant describe--her inner beauty so beautiful so loving so giving I just miss her a lot," said Marshall. “I’m just really happy that I got that time to spend with her…I just never knew pain like this.”

Brown's ex-boyfriend, Alfredo Capote, police say, is a person of interest in the murder.

Police said Copote raped Brown at her Duluth home with her son present, and then again at a Cobb County hotel. The next day, police said, Brown escaped and sought help from a stranger.

Three months later, Brown was found shot.

Friends said Brown leaves behind a teenage son.
