A fire at a Gwinnett County apartment building has displaced more than 10 people on Saturday morning.

Officials say that firefighters responded to multiple callers reports of a fire at Villas De La Vista Apartments in the 900 block of Sparrows Lane in unincorporated Norcross.

When crews got to the scene they saw smoke and fire coming through the roof of the three-story, wood-framed apartment building. The crews used multiple hoses to quarantine the fire, keeping the damage from affecting all 20 units in the building.

In all, officials say that five units were affected by the blaze. Two of those suffered heavy damage due to the smoke, fire.

Eight adults and eight children have been displaced by the fire. They all declined assistance from the American Red Cross. There were no injuries.

While the cause of the fire has not been determined, officials say that the fire originated in the walls between the second floor and the apartment building's laundry rooms.
