During a press conference Wednesday afternoon, the FBI called the Pulse nightclub mass shooting both a hate crime and terror attack.

FBI Agent Ronald Hopper was asked by a reporter how the shooting is being investigated.

"This was an act of violence born out of hate that inflicted terror on an entire community. So I would call it a hate crime, I would call it terrorism, it's both," Hopper said.

The FBI urged anyone with any information about the gunman, 29-year-old Omar Mateen, to contact the agency directly.

Hopper did not provide any significant updates on the progress of the investigation. He said investigators plan to take their time as they sift through the vast crime scene and dig into Mateen's past.
