Father of 8 murdered, police search for killer
GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. - Gwinnett County Police are investigating a deadly shooting. It happened Sunday at an apartment in the Rockbridge Court apartment complex.
"We got multiple calls after 1 p.m., all of them reported multiple shots fired," Gwinnett County Police Corporal Matthew Williamson said. "When police arrived they found a man dead from gunshot wounds."
Family and friends told FOX 5 the victim is 42-year-old Joe Love, a father of eight and a well-known member in the community.
"When I first moved here, he took me and my family in," friend William Donegan said. "That's the kind of man he was. He would give whatever he had to whoever. He cooked for the whole neighborhood. That was Joe. We didn't deserve this and I hope they find whoever did this."
Police said Love wasn't alone at the time of the shooting.
"There was a second person inside," Corporal Williamson said. "That person heard shots and he busted through the window. He has minor injuries but isn't a suspect at this time."
Police do not have a motive for the shooting or a suspect in custody.
Love's fiance, Shunique Jones said Love had just proposed in December and now the man Jones planned to spend the rest of her life with is dead.
"I loved him so much and now I don't know what I'm going to do without him," Jones said. "I'll never find anyone like him."
As police continue their investigation into Love's murder, loved ones, like Sherry Williams, who was married to Love for nine years, struggle to deal with the idea of a life without Love.
"He was amazing," Williams said. "He was a good person. He didn't deserve this and I hope justice is served."
Police are asking anyone with any information on Love's murder to come forward.
