A Southwest Atlanta family still wants answers one year later after their loved one was gunned down as he slept in a car on Dale Lane.

Justin Hill's family says not a day goes by that they do not think of the young father of 7.

His father, Joseph Hill, was initially too emotional to talk with us about what happened October 27 of 2017.

The family tells me Justin and two friends were asleep in what police say was a stolen black Dodge charger in the early morning hours on a Thursday morning.

"Yes he was ambushed. Those guys were cowards," Mr. Hill told us with tears rolling down his face.

Atlanta Police say a wounded Hill drove around from the shooting scene on Dale Lane to his grandmother's house around the corner on Star Mist.

"He said grandmama, grandmama open the door, I have been shot. Then Joseph grabbed him and pulled him into the house," Priscilla Hill emotionally recalled.

"Whoever did this needs to realize they will be caught," Mrs. Hill said.

Both the family and police believe Hill was killed by someone he knew.

Atlanta Police say Hill and his friends were in a stolen car and that may be the motive for his murder. They also say the stolen car was the result of a carjacking, but Hill and his friends were not a part of the crime.

The family will have a memorial Saturday at Dawn Memorial Park in Decatur at 1:30p and a vigil at 4:30p in the Westgate Shopping Plaza.
