Family, friends remember Mays High School student
ATLANTA - Family and friends gathered to remember a 15-year-old boy who was shot and killed inside his northwest Atlanta home.
Services for Mays High School student Marquez Montgomery took place at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in southwest Atlanta.
Marquez's family told FOX 5 he was a defensive player on the Raiders football team.
Police said they found Montgomery fatally shot in the head inside a home on Adkins Road a week ago.
Investigators have arrested his 21-year-old cousin, Dontavis Montgomery, and charged him with murder, but his family insists the shooting was an accident.
Dontavis was out on bond for a previous offense, police said. In January of 2015 he was arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault in the stabbing death of Nicole Roberts. For that crime, he was granted $100,000 bond with conditions and was released on October 13, 2015.
He is being held at the Fulton County Jail.
