Extreme drought conditions persist in large parts of Georgia

ATLANTA (AP) — Authorities say the extreme drought conditions that have plagued parts of north Georgia are continuing.

The latest U.S. Drought Monitor report released Thursday shows that several counties in the northwest corner of Georgia are experiencing extreme drought.

Extreme drought conditions also continue in several counties in northeast Georgia; and in large parts of metro Atlanta.

The report, like last week's report, shows that most of north Georgia continues to experience either severe or extreme drought.

The U.S. Drought Monitor is produced through a partnership between the National Drought Mitigation Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the federal government.
