Elderly man airlifted after Coffee County highway crash

DOUGLAS, Ga. (AP) - An elderly man has been airlifted to the hospital after a highway wreck in Georgia's Coffee County.

WALB-TV reports (http://bit.ly/2qOZ6Z4) that the crash happened Saturday night on Highway 221/State Route 135. Georgia State Patrol Trooper Clint Guest says an elderly man driving a pickup truck attempted to change lanes without enough clearance and was struck by another pickup truck, causing his vehicle to leave the roadway, hit a ditch and strike a steel beam sign support.

Guest says the elderly man had wounds on his legs. He was talking and conscious at the scene before he was airlifted. The other driver had bruises from an air bag that deployed.

Guest says charges are pending. It's unclear what they are.
