A Douglas County widow believes she is one step closer to finding out the truth about her husband's death.

Cynthia Daniels asked the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office on Friday to release new surveillance video from the night her husband Bobby was killed. The family said they want to clear Bobby’s name.

A Douglas County deputy shot and killed the 48-year-old father of five and Navy veteran in December at the Arbor Village mobile home park.

Since the beginning, the family has maintained Bobby Daniels was trying to defuse a situation between his son, Bias Daniels, and law enforcement.

According to the GBI’s preliminary findings, it all started with a call about the kidnapping of an onsite security guard who broke free.

When deputies arrived, a witness told them a man was walking nearby with a gun. Deputies said they approached the man, who was later identified as Bias Daniels, and told him to put the gun down.

But authorities said it appears when Bias Daniels put the gun down, his father picked it up.

The GBI report found there was a struggle between the father and son. And despite commands to drop the gun, the GBI said it appeared the gun was pointed at the deputies.

That is when they said one deputy opened fire, killing Bobby Daniels.

But the family contends their loved one, who was a security guard, knew better than to point a gun at law enforcement.

The district attorney’s office said they will have a team look over the GBI findings and everything related to the case, and then determine if there is a legal case. The deputy remains on the Douglas County payroll.
