Doorbell camera footage helps convict Carrollton man in attack

CARROLLTON, Ga. - A 58-year-old Carrollton man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after a jury convicted him of dragging his girlfriend back inside her home during a domestic attack.
What we know:
A Carroll County jury found 58-year-old Carrollton resident Ted Walter Welborn guilty of kidnapping with bodily injury and family violence battery on Aug. 13.
Honorable Judge John Simpson presided over the case and handed down the statutorily mandated sentence of life without the possibility of parole.
The backstory:
Carrollton Police Department officers responded to the victim’s home on Oct. 23, 2025, after she called 911 to report that her boyfriend had assaulted her.
Officers arrived to find disarranged furniture and visible injuries on the victim's face.
Doorbell camera footage showed that when the victim tried to leave the apartment after the initial assault, Welborn followed her outside.
He grabbed her upper body, physically dragged her back into the home, and threw her to the floor, causing further injury.
During the sentencing hearing following the trial, the prosecution produced evidence showing Welborn had previously been convicted of felony offenses on eight separate occasions.
