Deputies shoots suspect after chase in Clayton County; GBI investigates

A deputy was forced to open fire on a suspect following a chase, the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said a Clayton County Sheriff’s deputy tried to pull over a pickup truck associated with a wanted person in the 6300 block of Jonesboro Road around 2 p.m. Tuesday. It sped off and ended up crashing near 5320 Philips Road.

After the wreck, the deputy fired at the man, identified as Donald Clark Wright III, 24, of Jackson, the GBI said. He ran from the scene and was later caught near Helen Street. He was taken to Atlanta Medical Center in stable condition. He is expected to recover.

The GBI said Wright has multiple arrest warrants from various counties in Georgia.

No officer or deputies were injured.

The GBI will turn over the results of the investigation to the Clayton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
