The Polk County Sheriff's Office is investigating a woman's suspicious death on US Highway 92.

Deputies initially believed the woman could have been the victim of a hit-and-run, but they now say the death is suspicious.

The victim, identified as 22-year-old Kara Fay Hanvey of Sebring, was found on a median of the roadway near Reynolds Road.

Investigators said Hanvey's body had minor trauma and an apparent broken leg. An autopsy will be performed on Monday to determine the exact cause of death.

The sheriff's office is looking for any witnesses who may have been in the area between 5:30 am and 6:30 a.m. They are also looking for any of Hanvey's acquaintances who have information on her whereabouts or activities on Saturday night and Sunday morning. Anyone with information is asked to call PCSO at 863-298-6200.
