DeKalb County DA to Seek Murder Indictment in Anthony Hill Case

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - Prosecutors have announced they'll seek charges against a DeKalb County police officer who shot and killed an unarmed man last March. 

Anthony Hill, an Air Force veteran, was shot and killed by Officer Robert Olsen during a confrontation on March 9. Hill was 24 years old.

On Thursday morning, District Attorney Robert James announced that he will ask a grand jury to indict Olsen on a number of charges, including felony murder. 

"The facts and circumstances surrounding the shooting death of Anthony Hill warrant a charge for felony murder and that's why we're presenting it to the grand jury," said James. "Ultimately, it's going to be up to a grand jury if Officer Olsen is charged with felony murder." 

Christopher Chestnut, the Hill family's attorney, said he and the Hill family received a call Wednesday from the DeKalb County District Attorney's Office informing them of the plan to pursue charges.

Chestnut said James filed a formal notice Wednesday of the intent to file an indictment against Officer Olsen, who shot and killed an unarmed and naked Hill outside an apartment complex on March 9.

Chestnut said the intent and notice to the officer must be filed 15 days before any formal charges could be brought. "[James] has been very meticulous and calculated in his work on this case. Whatever he charges, he'll be confident he can prove that," Chestnut said to FOX 5.

"The news today was very refreshing for [the family]," Chestnut said.
