Woman killed in early morning Carroll County fire
An early morning fire in Carroll County left one woman dead and a man hospitalized. Fire crews arrived around 2 a.m. to find the home fully engulfed; the blaze was under control within 30 minutes. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Carroll County Fire Rescue.
CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. - A woman is dead and a man remains hospitalized after a house fire early Tuesday morning in Carroll County.
What we know:
Carroll County Fire Rescue said crews were dispatched to Daniel Road at about 2:07 a.m. after reports of a residential structure fire. When firefighters arrived, they found the home fully engulfed in flames.
One occupant, a 72-year-old man, was able to escape and went to a neighbor’s home for help. He was treated at the scene and later taken by ambulance to an Atlanta-area trauma center for possible smoke inhalation. His condition has not been released.
A 66-year-old woman was found inside the home and pronounced dead at the scene by the Carroll County Coroner’s Office. Fire officials said the blaze was brought under control within about 30 minutes.

Neighbors were shocked after they found out about the fire.
"We didn't hear any explosions or anything. I mean there's plenty of us around that we would have heard something. My sister-in-law said that she noticed it because she heard cracking," said Savannah Corbitt. "It was so orange and so bright that you couldn't, you really couldn't tell how close it was."
"With all the trees around and everything, I mean, we were walking around this morning and there's just ashes that have fallen. It's insane. And all I can do is keep saying thank you, God that you kept me and my family safe," she said. "Life can change in just a moment...I can't imagine the devastation. I mean there's nothing left."
What we don't know:
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The victims have not been identified at this time.
