Flames tore through a Forest Park home February 1 with a family of seven inside. The father made sure everyone escaped the fire, but he died doing it. Thursday night, friends and family gathered together to remember Brandon Gamble.

"He's a hero and he'll be remembered," said Gamble's oldest son, Brandon Jr.

Brandon Jr., 14, clearly remembered the horrendous night when flames tore through their home and took his father's life.

"We were asleep and we woke up in the middle of the night and the house was on fire and we heard my daddy yelling, he busted the window and we got out the window," said Brandon Jr.

Brandon Gamble made sure his wife and all five children escaped the burning home, but he didn't make it out.

"Me and my kids are safe and it's because of my husband," said his wife Tyeisha Gamble.

Gamble's wife said she has her husband to thank for her life and the lives of their children.

"I was the first one to wake up, the house was burning quietly, it could have took all seven of us," said Gamble.

As friends huddled around the family Thursday night to remember Brandon, they talked about how the 30-year-old who loved his family and music, would always go out of his way to help others. Now they know his family needs help and their support.

"Trying to keep them strong, love them, hug them when they want to cry," said the children's grandmother, Karen Wingo.

Tyeisha was injured in the fire. Day-by-day she is getting stronger and she said now she has to focus on the children.

"He wants me to always be strong and take care of the kids and that's what I'm going to do," she said.
