Crowds Pack Malls, Police Urge Safe Shopping Habits

From the Mall of Georgia to Lenox Square Mall, authorities around the metro area urge shoppers to practice safe shopping habits as crowds pack entrances and parking lots.

More than a thousand people stood outside entrances at Belk at the Mall of Georgia. Staff said extra security and off-duty Gwinnett County police officers were hired to help manage crowds.

- Be vigilant walking back to your vehicle.

- Always place shopping bags in the trunk of a vehicle.

- Cling to purses and belongings tightly while shopping.

- Walk with at least one other person to your car while shopping.

- Have your keys ready as you approach your car, to prevent fumbling through your purse.
