A crash blocked the main lanes of I-85 southbound at Sylvan Road near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport early Wednesday, causing delays for drivers heading toward the airport.

What we know:

The crash happened in the center lanes just past Exit 75. Vehicles remained in the roadway shortly after 6 a.m., while traffic moved past the scene on the right shoulder.

Emergency vehicles were seen transporting some people from the scene.

Hapeville Police confirmed that a female police officer was one of those involved in the crash. The officer was "alert, conscious and breathing" at the time of transport to an area hospital.

Delays stretched back to Metropolitan Parkway. Drivers were advised to allow extra travel time or consider Metropolitan Parkway or I-75 to avoid the backup.

What we don't know:

The condition of the officer and anyone else involved has not been released at this time. It is also unknown what led up to the collision.

This is a developing story. Information above subject to change. Check back for updates.
