Cobb County man faces charges after SWAT standoff
MABLETON, Ga. - Cobb County police Wednesday night did not release the name of the young man taken into custody after investigators said he forced his way in to a home on Regal Hills Lane in Mableton. But police said he is facing several charges after holding the SWAT team at bay for hours that night.
“At some point our Zone 2 officers were able to get the other people safely out of the home while he was inside the residence. Unfortunately, those people did suffer some minor injuries and some of the people inside were very young babies,” said Cobb County Police Spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce.
Officers rushed to the gated community off Veterans Memorial Parkway, initially thinking there was a burglary in progress, only to discover the man is well acquainted with the victims, including young children. Investigators said the women and children inside the home were injured during the crime, but won’t describe how.
“I don’t want to get into the specifics while we are sorting out the relationship between the victims and the suspects, but I will say our Crimes Against Children Unit is looking at this to determine the types of charges he will face in this case,” Sgt Pierce said.
The women and children were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. None of the officers, which at one point topped more than 100, were injured in the ordeal before the suspect surrendered.
