Clayton County grandmother arrested after 3-year-old found wandering

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - Deputies in Clayton County said they arrested a grandmother after her 3-year-old granddaughter was found wandering in the middle of the street of an apartment complex Thursday morning.

Clayton County deputies said the discovery of the young girl outside Laurel Pointe Apartments prompted a massive door-by-door search of the complex and an alert sent out to residents of Clayton County. Deputies said they were able to identify the girl within 20 minutes of the alert.

When they arrived at the home, no one answered the door. Deputies said a family member eventually came home and told deputies the girl’s grandmother was supposed to be watching her.

When the relatives checked, they found the grandmother asleep upstairs and unaware the child had wandered off, deputies said.

Deputies said they arrested Linda Hart for negligence.
