Clarke County teacher arrested

A Clarke County Schools teacher was arrested on accusations of inappropriate contact with a student.

Kara Elizabeth Coalson, 23, was taken into custody after allegations surfaced she had an inappropriate relationship with a student, the school district said. She is being charged with sexual assault.

The district issued a statement saying that Coalson has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. It reads:

“The school district was recently informed of a potentially inappropriate incident that took place off campus involving a student and a teacher. District officials immediately contacted local law enforcement and the teacher was placed on administrative leave, pending an investigation. The police investigation is ongoing and an arrest warrant has been issued for the teacher. The school district has also notified state officials at the Georgia Professional Standards Commission of the investigation and the circumstances surrounding it.  While we cannot share more information due to our need to protect the student and the nature of the investigation, we want to reiterate that our first and most important responsibility is the safety of all students. The district takes these situations very seriously and acted quickly upon learning of the potentially inappropriate relationship.”
