City Winery Atlanta adds $25 minimum food and drink policy for shows

City Winery has announced a new policy requiring guests to spend a minimum of $25 on food and drink at its future shows.

The chain of venues, which has a location at Atlanta's Ponce City Market, announced the update in an email to customers this week.

What we know:

The policy requires each guest to spend $25 on food, beverages, and City Winery merchandise by the end of his or her visit.

The per person minimum will be charged when guests request their check at the end of their visit if they don't meet the required balance.

It starts with shows announced after Jan. 15, so anyone with tickets to shows announced before that date will not be required to meet the minimum.

All food, drinks, and wine purchased on the day of the show go to the minimum, but guests should keep their receipt to show venue staff.

You can learn more about the new policy on City Winery Atlanta's website.

What they're saying:

"This new policy is essential to sustaining your experience, which prioritizes giving the majority of ticket sales directly to the talented artists who grace our stage," City Winery said in the email announcement.

The backstory:

Micahel Dorf, founder of the New York City music venue Knitting Factory, opened the City Winery in 2008. The chain has since expanded to Atlanta, Nashville, Chicago, Philadelphia, and other major cities.

Each location is a functioning winery and sells the vintages its staff makes at the venue.
