City Official: It's Time to Do Away with PARKAtlanta

Atlanta City Council member Mary Norwood does not hold back. She does not want a contract for parking enforcement renewed with the private firm PARKAtlanta.

At the same time, over at the state capitol, a legislator from Atlanta thinks any similar relationship in which ticketing is tied to a company’s profits should not exist in the future. That legislator, Vincent Fort, is ready to say goodbye to the city's firm. And he's even planning possible state action to make that happen.

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed said on Monday he's "not incline to renew the deal with PARKAtlanta.

Reed doesn't place all the blame on the company. He said when the city had the responsibility, too many motorists did not pay their tickets and the traffic court never did a good job collecting.

The mayor said any firm that came in would take some heat because citizens were accustomed to not paying. Still Reed said he does not think the relationship can be repaired.
