Body of missing Canton woman found in river

LUMPKIN COUNTY, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - Deputies confirmed a body found submerged in the Chestatee River is of a Canton woman reported missing Monday morning.

Belinda Butterfield, 34, of Canton, was last seen swimming in Tesnatee Creek in White County, according to the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office. Wednesday around 10:30 a.m., a concerned citizen located body in the river.

It was recovered by the fire department’s swift water team.

Family members were able to identify the body.

Butterfield’s body will be taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab for an autopsy.
