Body found in woods identified as missing Newnan teen

In a tragic turn of events, the GBI has identified a body found in a wooded area in Newnan as being a teenager who went missing nearly two months ago.

On Wednesday, March 13 at around 2:45 p.m., Newnan Police responded to a call of a person found dead in the woods near Postal Parkway. Officials say they could not identify the body at the scene and asked the GBI Crime Lab to help.

Monday, the GBI said that they were able to identify the body as 19-year-old Jacorey Harris.

Harris had been reported missing by his family on the morning of Jan. 21 after police say he walked away from his family's home without his wallet or cell phone. Police say he was thought to have been seen that night at a local restaurant, but he was not seen after that until his body was found.

Officials have not yet been able to determine the time or cause of Harris' death. The investigation is ongoing.
