Body found in Georgia river during search for port worker

A Georgia agency says a body has been recovered from the water near the Port of Savannah, where crews had been searching for a construction worker who fell into the river.

Mark McKinnon of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said fishermen in the Savannah River found the body Thursday evening and it was recovered by game wardens. McKinnon said the body "appears to be the missing barge worker" and was turned over to the Chatham County coroner.

The Georgia Ports Authority says two construction workers fell into the river Wednesday when the boat they were on bumped into a barge. One of them climbed out of the water safely, but the other never surfaced. The workers were employed by a construction company contracted to renovate docks at the port.
