BMW bought with fake cash located in Gainesville

Police have located a BMW purchased with $2,500 in counterfeit money in Gainesville.

Jonathan Chandler, the victim, told FOX 5's Marissa Mitchell that Hall County Sheriff’s Deputies located the vehicle Tuesday outside of a home on Clarks Bridge Road.

On Sunday night, Chandler said he met a man who wanted to purchase his vehicle on the Offer Up app. He said the two decided to meet in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart on Mundy Mill Road shortly before 11 p.m. the same night to make the exchange for the 2000 BMW 323CI with black rims. He said two people in a red car dropped off the buyer before driving off.

Candler said the man handed him the money in $50 bills then left.

Shortly after that, Chandler realized he had been duped.

"You see it on TV and you say, 'Man, that happened to that guy? He's a sucker.' But, no, it happened to me," Chandler said. "Play it safe. Go to a bank and verify the money. Do it in daylight."

Police confirmed to FOX 5 the money is bogus. They also urge people to meet at police departments when conducting online and app transactions.
