"Basketball Cop" is using his viral fame to build courts for kids
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - A group of nine Gainesville, Florida kids got an amazing gift this week from “Basketball Cop” Bobby White - their very own basketball court in the backyard of the house they routinely play.
Gainesville Officer Bobby White or the "Basketball Cop" has started the Basketball Cop Foundation.
Officer White gained attention when a video of him responding to a noise complaint turned into a pick-up basketball with the neighborhood kids went viral. The video gained the attention of basketball legend Shaquille O'Neal who surprised Officer White and the Gainesville kids by playing in a pick-up basketball game in January. (READ STORY HERE)
Officer White has used that success to further a campaign to help others in the community. He has created the Basketball Cop Foundation to raise money to help supply kids with new basketball equipment.
The Basketball Cop, along with help of fellow officers and community businesses, have recently built a new #HoopsNotCrime backyard basketball court for kids to play at. Members of the Harlem Globetrotters came up to the unveiling.
Officer White has created a Facebook page: www.facebook.com/BasketballCop where more information can be found on upcoming projects.
