Atlanta Police Investigate Man Shot, Killed at Party

Investigators said they have a person of interest after a man was shot and killed at an apartment late Wednesday.

Atlanta Police responded to a unit at the Envoy apartments on Northside Drive around 11:30 p.m. to a report of a person shot. They found the victim dead of at least one gunshot wound.

Officers have not released the victim's name, but said he was visiting Atlanta from out-of-town.

"He was invited down here by a friend," said Capt. Michael O'Connor of the APD homicide unit.  "They were all hanging out in the apartment.  It was supposed to be somewhat social and then how things turned around we're not entirely certain."

Police said the suspect in the case may also have been invited in to the party.

A gun was recovered at the scene and a witness came forward to give investigators what they described as significant information in the case.

Officers worked overnight to secure a search warrant for the apartment after they reported smelling a strong odor of marijuana inside.  They must still determine what role, if any, drugs played in the shooting.
