Atlanta mayor unveils mall surveillance plan
ATLANTA - On Thursday, law enforcement SWAT teams conducted drills inside shopping malls in preparation for an active shooter scenario.
There is something else Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed wants to add to their arsenal. It is the ability to see inside the mall, should an attacker be on the loose.
This week, the mayor invited mall security officials to the Atlanta Police Department command bunker in Downtown Atlanta.
It is where video from public street cameras can be looked at, and police dispatched simultaneously.
Reed asked mall managers to open up their inside cameras and link them to the police video integration center, and they agreed.
Reed said it is important for officers to be able to see in real-time what is going on.
