COBB COUNTY, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - The Atlanta Braves have announced they plan to extend the netting at SunTrust Park for fan safety.
The new netting will extend to the foul poles, the Braves announced on Twitter Monday.
The team says, barring any complications, the project should be done by the end of September.
"The extension will provide additional protection for our fans while preserving the overall game-day experience as much as possible," the team said.
In recent years, there has been an increase in high profile incidents where fans have been hurt by balls and bats flying into the stands.
Earlier this year a little girl was hit by a foul ball in Houston during a game between the Astros and the Cubs.
An attorney for the family of the girl said she had bleeding and swelling in her brain as well as a brain contusion after she was hit.
