ATKINS FORD ARENA
ATHENS, Ga. - The Athens Rock Lobsters have announced changes to their home opening schedule due to inspections at Akins Ford Arena, the team’s new venue.
Athens-Clarke County is conducting the inspections this week, prompting the team to reschedule its game against Monroe originally set for Dec. 12.
The team now plans to kick off its season with a highly anticipated home opener on Dec. 13, pending necessary certifications. The event will also serve as a celebration of Classic City Night in the new state-of-the-art arena.
Fans holding tickets for the Dec. 6 game can use their original tickets for the rescheduled home opener on Dec. 13. Tickets will automatically transfer to the new date, and no additional action is required. Those unable to attend can request a refund by emailing Ticketing@AkinsFordArena.com before 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 12.
Ticket holders for the Dec. 7 and 12 games should retain their tickets, which will remain valid for rescheduled dates. New dates for these games will be announced soon.
The arena is also scheduled to host a concert by the B-52s, whose hit song inspired the hockey team's name, on Dec. 14. At this time, it does not appear that it has been canceled.
The new arena is part of The Classic Center, which is located near University of Georgia's campus in downtown Athens. Construction on the arena began in 2022.
