Police have made an arrest after a shot was fired inside a Gwinnett County park last week.

No one was injured, but investigators said Dallas Chandler Root, 19, was the one who pulled the trigger at Bay Creek Park on Ozora Road.

Investigators said it happened October 6 after 9:00 p.m. when three men got into an altercation near the basketball court. It started as pushing and shoving, but quickly escalated.

A witness told police Root took out a gun and fired a shot at one of the men, but luckily no one was hit.

In the cell phone video, you can see people duck for cover, while a witness tackles the shooter. Another witness told police the victim ran beyond the skate park, while the shooter and the other man fled in a green SUV.

Wednesday night, officers arrested Root inside a Snellville home. He was transported to the Gwinnett County jail and has been charged with aggravated assault and reckless conduct.

"You come here every afternoon to walk and I have a granddaughter and people are out here playing everyday and children, and for that to happen, is just devastating," said Cynthia Jajjo, who visits the park several times a week.

"I was very concerned," said another park visitor.  "I come here a lot. I bring my four-year-old nephew here. I like it to be a safe place. That's what I like about living across the street from a park. You have access to a family friendly environment," said Jessica Bryant

A witness told police he later saw the man who was shot at in the parking lot, getting into his vehicle.

Wednesday night, police held a meeting with the community about the shooting. Patrols in the park have been stepped up, but officers said they need the public's help in keeping everyone safe.
