Dozens of dogs removed from 2 Lithonia homes

It's all part of an ongoing animal cruelty investigations. Neighbors say they had no idea that many dogs were being kept inside the two separate homes on Creekford Lane. They say it took hours and multiple trucks for animal services to remove them all.

DeKalb County Police is investigating a case of animal cruelty in Lithonia. A spokesperson for the department tells FOX 5 they believe 30 dogs in total have been removed. The remains of another dog were also removed.

It's believed the dogs were being kept in two homes on Creekford Lane. FOX 5 saw DeKalb County Police investigating the two locations. Neighbors say there were shocked to see so many dogs being removed.

"They needed like 3 trucks to come pick up all the animals, that's a lot," said neighbor Dubri King.

King says he never saw any signs of that many dogs from outside.

"I didn't understand that there was that many dogs in the house," said King. "How was that situation going? I can't imagine all the feces everywhere, were they all locked in one room? I'm curious."

DeKalb County Animal Services & Enforcement loaded the dogs up, but it is not yet clear where they will be taken. According to the DeKalb County Police Department, two of the rescued animals had severe injuries and were without access to food, water and lighting.

Another neighbor, Sunshine Dixon, says she hopes the dogs are ok.

"Dogs should not be hurt, they can't express themselves as humans, they can't tell you right from wrong, they don't deserve any harm."

So far, no one has been taken into custody but arrest warrants have been obtained, according to DCPD.

NOTE: This story was updated to change the number of dogs from 25 to 30.
