Neighbors made an unusual discovery in northeast Atlanta. They found a huge duffel bag dumped along the side of a street. It was filled with several unopened Amazon packages.

There were close to two dozen packages in all shapes and sizes inside the bag. It was discovered on Charline Avenue.

Rick Doner and his neighbor knew the packages all came from Amazon by looking at the packaging, but how they ended up on the side of the road was the mystery.

"Must have been a delivery person who got tired or whatever because this had to have been thrown, it couldn't have just fallen off," said Doner.

Rick's wife contacted Amazon and offered to drop the goods off at a distribution site. But she said she was told she didn't have to do that, she could keep the boxes or destroy them. Instead, she posted the find on Nextdoor.

Michael Frizzell saw the post. He doesn't live far away and was expecting a box.

"I had ordered a camera bag and a sleeve for a lens," said Frizzell.

Frizzell said he had been contacted by Amazon saying the package had disappeared off their radar.

"I got an email saying it was delayed or something happened to the package in transit," said Frizzell.

FOX 5 News contacted Amazon asking how this could happen. A spokesman released the following statement:

"We have high standards for delivery service providers and expect every package to be handled with care. We will work directly with customers to make things right."

"You assume Amazon's got a good delivery system, but in this came it clearly failed them," said Rick Doner.

As for the rest of the boxes, Rick and his wife plan to hand deliver them.

"We're going to try to deliver them to the addresses that are marked on the boxes," said Rick.
