Adairsville police looking for person of interest in gas station shooting

Police are searching for a person of interest in connection with a gas station shooting in Adairsville early Monday morning.

It happened around 2:30 a.m. at the QuikTrip on Highway 140 Northwest. Adairsville Police Chief Mike Jones said surveillance video shows the suspect trying to get Florida driver Jonathan Meyer to roll down his window. Jones said Meyers had pulled off the highway to get a quick nap in before going back out of the road.

"The gentleman ask him a couple of questions then demanded for him to get out of the truck, showed him a handgun and the victim started backing out and when the victim started backing out of the parking lot, the suspect started firing," Adairsville Police Chief Mike Jones explained.

Responding officers found a male victim in his truck with a gunshot wound. He was flown to a nearby hospital.

"One of the rounds struck Mr. Meyer in the chest. You can see him trying to flee the area on the QT surveillance video when he is shot. He loses control of the pick-up truck and strikes two parked cars, one had a person asleep inside," the chief said.

The surveillance video also captured two women go inside the QT to use the restroom.

The Adairsville Police Department needs help identifying a white female with brown hair, who was seen in store surveillance video wearing a camouflage T-shirt and shorts. Police are calling her a person of interest.

Police are also looking for the suspect's vehicle, which is described as a 4-door, light-colored sedan, possibly a Toyota Camry.
