12-year-old keeps family safe during break in
ATLANTA (FOX 5 Atlanta) - A 12-year-old boy Atlanta boy helped keep his family safe while a man broke into and wandered through their home early Sunday morning.
Shantel Alphabet dropped her son Christian, daughter, Aryn, and niece, Chariyah, off at her mother’s apartment in Southwest Atlanta to spend the night.
When it was time for bed, the daughter, niece and grandmother went to sleep in the bedroom, while Christian slept on the couch in the living room.
In the middle of the night, Christian noticed a man entering the home.
He waited until the man left the living room, then he ran to the bedroom to protect his family.
He locked them all in the bedroom and called 911. Then, he called his mother.
Police came and found the man inside the home—they escorted him out. The man was not armed and the family said he was acting disoriented.
No one was hurt, and Alphabet said she is relieved and proud her son acted quickly.
No charges were filed against the man.
