It’s been a thrilling riders for more than four decades, and remains one of the most recognizable coasters at Six Flags Over Georgia.  But as the Austell park opens for its 2018 season, fans can expect something a little different when boarding The Great American Scream Machine.

Beginning opening weekend and continuing through late spring, Six Flags Over Georgia will run The Great American Scream Machine backward, flipping the experience for both longtime fans and newbie riders.  The wooden coaster first opened in 1973, and covers more than 3,800 feet of track over some very steep climbs and drops.  Along with the backward Scream Machine, Six Flags Over Georgia favorites including Goliath, Georgia Scorcher, and SUPERMAN: Ultimate Flight will also be up and running for opening weekend, while the park’s buzzed about new attraction, wood and steel hybrid coaster Twisted Cyclone, is set to follow later in the spring.

Good Day Atlanta’s Paul Milliken is never one to miss a Six Flags Over Georgia opening weekend, and he spent the morning at the park trying out the backward Great American Scream Machine live on television!
