Future Officers Get Behind-The-Scenes Look at Law Enforcement: Many children say they want to be a police officer when they grow up.  But this week, some lucky area youth are actually getting to experience what life as a law enforcement is like.

The Gwinnett County Police Department is hosting its first summer Youth Police Academy this week, at the Gwinnett County Police Training Center in Lawrenceville.  Teens between the ages of 13 and 17 were asked to write an essay explaining why they wanted to attend, and those chosen are spending the week immersed behind-the-scenes of the GCPD.  Activities this week include defense demonstrations, a look at crime scene processing, tours of police headquarters and the 911 call center, and up-close looks at various law enforcement vehicles.  Students will earn a certificate of completion at a “graduation” ceremony on Friday.

Good Day Atlanta’s Paul Milliken spent the morning at the Gwinnett County Police Training Center, talking with the young men and women taking part in the Youth Police Academy.
