Games get retro at new Kennesaw arcade

From Donkey Kong to Space Invaders, Street Fighter to Ninja Turtles, the arcade classics of the 1970s and 1980s live on (…and on and on, depending on how much time you’ve got) at a brand-new Kennesaw hangout.

Portal Pinball Arcade was recently opened by local couple Bryan & Amanda Broyles, and features dozens of classic pinball machines and arcade games.  There’s a full game list online, but you’ll definitely recognize the names if you were an “arcade kid” back in the 1980s, with pinball classics like Alien Star (1983) and Flight 2000 (1980) located alongside newer machines including 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Star Wars.  On the arcade game side, payers can take on Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (1995) and Captain America and The Avengers (1991) among a revolving lineup.  And if you’re out of quarters, you’re not out of luck — games are “open play” after the price of admission.

Portal Pinball Arcade is located at 3600 Cherokee Street #102 in Kennesaw.  It’s open from noon to 10 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, noon to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, and 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays.  Admission is $8 for an hourly pass or $15 for an all-day pass.

Good Day Atlanta’s Paul Milliken is never one to turn down a trip to the arcade, especially one that features his favorites from the 1980s.  So he spent the morning attempting to set some new high scores at Portal Pinball Arcade.
